Tactile Teacher: Toward Sensing Taps When Playing Piano
ثبت نشده
چکیده
In a piano lesson, a student often imitates how her teacher is playing in terms of speed, dynamics, and fingering. We seek to convey the touch sensations in piano lessons between a teacher and a student by sensing the teacher's keystrokes and then tapping the student's fingers appropriately. Here, we propose an implementation to sense finger taps on hard surfaces by using an instrumented glove. Since finger taps generate acoustic signals and cause vibrations on the palm, we embed two vibration sensors on the glove and use machine learning to analyze the data from the sensors. After a brief training procedure, this prototype can accurately identify which fingers are being tapped in real time. Author

Developing a Virtual Piano Playing Environment
In this paper the framework for a multimedia platform called ADRI is described which aids in playing the piano. A 3Dpiano with visualisation of notes was built in a virtual environment and connected with a real synthesizer using Midi to interact with a user. Multiple users can play together on the virtual piano in this 3D environment from different locations. Multiple agents were made, each wit...
متن کاملPerceptual Grouping over Time within and across Auditory and Tactile Modalities
In auditory scene analysis, population separation and temporal coherence have been proposed to explain how auditory features are grouped together and streamed over time. The present study investigated whether these two theories can be applied to tactile streaming and whether temporal coherence theory can be applied to crossmodal streaming. The results show that synchrony detection between two t...
متن کاملFinger Position and Pressure Sensing Techniques for String and Keyboard Instruments
Several new technologies to capture motion, gesture and forces for musical instrument players’ analyses have been developed in the last years. In research and for augmented instruments one parameter is underrepresented so far. It is finger position and pressure measurement, applied by the musician while playing the musical instrument. In this paper we show a flexible linear-potentiometer and fo...
متن کاملMotor commands induce time compression for tactile stimuli.
Saccades cause compression of visual space around the saccadic target, and also a compression of time, both phenomena thought to be related to the problem of maintaining saccadic stability (Morrone et al., 2005; Burr and Morrone, 2011). Interestingly, similar phenomena occur at the time of hand movements, when tactile stimuli are systematically mislocalized in the direction of the movement (Das...
متن کامل3D Visual Feedback in Learning of Piano Posture
An overlooked, yet essential problem in piano practice involves body posture. Bending the back, leaning towards the keys, lifting the wrist and other improper positions are usually noticed by piano teachers when instructing their students. If they sit too low, fingers will feel the burden of static arm weight; if they sit too high, the playing might become rigid with tension in wrist and should...
